OCCUPATIONAL WELLNESS

What gives you satisfaction when working in the emergency department? Are you encouraged by your patient interactions? Do you enjoy figuring out why a patient is critically ill? What are the stressors associated with your occupation and how do you handle them?

INTELLECTUAL WELLNESS

Intellectual wellness refers to active engagement in mental activities to expand knowledge and skills.  Medicine is a career of life-long learning.  We need to continue to develop our intellectual curiosity and actively strive to challenge our minds with creative endeavors.

EMOTIONAL WELLNESS

Emotional wellness is the ability to be aware of and accept our feelings, rather than deny them, to  have an optimistic approach to life, and to enjoy life despite its stressors.

SPIRITUAL WELLNESS

Spiritual wellness is about what gives you meaning and purpose in your life and in your career.  It is the values and beliefs that bring purpose to our lives.

Physical wellness is our ability to maintain a healthy quality of life that allows us to get through our daily activities without undue fatigue or physical stress.  It is how we take care of our physical bodies, by adopting healthful habits and avoiding destructive habits.

SOCIAL WELLNESS

Social wellness is our ability to relate to and connect with other people in our world. It is our ability to establish and maintain relationships with family, friends and co-workers.

FINANCIAL WELLNESS

Financial wellness is becoming financially secure.  It requires establishing goals for providing for yourself and your family, planning for big future expenses, and creating a fund for emergencies and retirement.
